Created by The Shalimar, a New York City theatre troupe, and produced in association with the Ontological-Hysteric Incubator, the work mixes "film noir, green card marriages, movie musical fantasies and the romance of escapism." It was inspired by the company's "interviews on immigration with people in cross-cultural relationships."
Strangers, directed by Shoshona Currier, "explores the tension between what's real and what is imagined and how Hollywood colors our worldview," according to production notes. "A theatrical exploration of reality and what happens after the credits roll..."
The company features Kim Gainer, Brad Love, Daniel Popa, Franny Silverman, Jen Taher, Joey Williamson and Peter Allen Stone.
Sound and original music are by Anthony Gabriele. The creative team also includes choreographer Pavel Zustiak, set and lighting designer Ben Kato, video designer Miklos Buk, costume designer Sydney Maresca, prop designer and technical director Karl Allen, stage manager Zhen Heinemann and production assistant Kate Villanova.
Ontological Theater at St. Mark's Church is located at 131 E.10th Street (at Second Ave.). Tickets are $17 adult/$12 student. For tickets call (212) 352-3101.
