Off-Broadway News Shaina Taub's Suffs Sets 2nd Off-Broadway Extension at The Public

The new musical about suffragists from the Devil Wears Prada lyricist opens April 6.

The Public's Off-Broadway world premiere of Shaina Taub's Suffs has been extended a second time for two more weeks, with performances now set to continue through May 15. The show began previews March 13 and officially opens April 6.

Written by Public Theater Artist-in-Residence Taub, Suffs examines the suffragists and forgotten women who worked against divides and oppression as part of the fight for the right to vote. Set in the years leading up to the Nineteenth Amendment, the show explores both victories and failures.

Taub also stars in the cast alongside Tony winner Nikki M. James, Tony nominees Phillipa Soo and Jenn Colella, Jenna Bainbridge, Ally Bonino, Tsilala Brock, Hannah Cruz, Nadia Dandashi, Aisha de Haas, Stephanie Everett, Amina Faye, Holly Gould, Cassondra James, Jaygee Macapugay, Grace McLean, Susan Oliveras, Mia Pak, Liz Pearce, Monica Tulia Ramirez, J. Riley Jr., Angela Travino, Ada Westfall, and Aurelia Williams.

Directing the production is Tony nominee Leigh SilvermanSuffs features music direction and supervision by Andrea Grody and choreography by Obie winner Raja Feather Kelly, who is also a creative consultant.

The creative team includes scenic designer Mimi Lien, costume designer Toni-Leslie James, lighting designer Natasha Katz, sound designer Sun Hee Kil, sound effects designer Daniel Kluger, hair, wigs, and makeup designer Matthew Armentrout, dramaturg Ayanna Thompson, production stage manager Melanie J. Lisby, and stage managers Amber Johnson and Jessie Moore. Orchestrations are by Mike Brun and prop management is by Corinne Gologursky.
