Summer Cabaret at Yale presents "the acting company as band," with a season kick off production of Len Jenkins' Poor Folk's Pleasure on June 29.
Helmed by Glynis Rigsby, Poor Folk's Pleasure opens June 29 and runs through July 8. The acting ensemble weaves stories through "scenes, songs and dances in what the playwright has called 'a concert for the acting company as band.'"
A former artistic associate with American Conservatory Theatre (A.C.T.) in San Francisco, Rigsby previously collaborated on The Rilke Project for Yale Cabaret and All's Well That Ends Well for the Yale School of Drama.
Playwright Jenkin has been an artistic associate at Yale Repertory Theatre and serves on the dramatic writing faculty at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts.
The cast for the show includes Leslie Elliard, Derek Lucci, Mark Mattek, Katherine McKeever and Jennifer Brooke Riker. The creative team comprises scenic and costume designer Tobin Ost, lighting designer Aga Kunska and sound designer Mimi Epstein.
Tickets to Poor Folk's Pleasure range $10 - $16. Subscription packages are available from $36. The house opens for dinner service at 7 PM prior to each performance. The Summer Cabaret at Yale takes place at Yale Cabaret, which is located at 217 Park St. in New Haven. For information call the Summer Cabaret box office at (203) 432-1567.
