SuperYou Musical to Play Concerts at Carnegie Hall's Zankel Hall | Playbill

Cabaret & Concert News SuperYou Musical to Play Concerts at Carnegie Hall's Zankel Hall

The concerts follow a pandemic-canceled Off-Broadway premiere, drive-in concert, and viral success on TikTok.

The new musical SuperYou has set a pair of concert performances for Carnegie Hall's Zankel Hall. Written by Lourds Lane and directed and choreographed by JoAnn M. Hunter, the concerts will play the New York venue July 20 and 21.

The concerts will feature Kennedy Caughell, Justin Sargent, Brie Cassil, Carrie Compere, Ty Deran, Lydia Ricks, and Lane, backed by an all-female band comprising music director and pianist Wendy Bobbitt Cavett, pianist Julianne Merrill, guitarist Beth Callen, bass player Michelle Osbourne, and drum player Emma Ford.

The work tells the story of a woman and her superheroine creations that suddenly come to life, reminding her of the power of her own voice. The production was slated to open at the Daryl Roth Theatre Off-Broadway in May 2021, a run that ultimately was canceled by the pandemic. An earlier concert version of the musical, with its cast performing on the backs of five pick-up trucks, played a drive-in presentation in Amenia, New York, in June 2020; the work subsequently released a concept album and documentary film. The musical has also developed a healthy fanbase via TikTok.

SuperYou's upcoming concerts are produced by Melissa M. Jones/All Awesome LLC, and presented by Jan Warner and The SuperYou FUNdation, Lane's 5013c that invites youths and adults worldwide to find their own superhero selves through music, performance, and art.
