News Surflight's Rent, With Justin Guarini, Drew Gasparini, Katrina Dideriksen, Begins May 28 "American Idol" finalist Justin Guarini, recently on Broadway in American Idiot, portrays struggling musician Roger in Jonathan Larson's Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning musical Rent, starting May 28 at Surflight Theatre in Beach Haven, NJ.

Directed and choreographed by Jen Bender with music direction by Jeremy Randall, the production runs to June 19.

The company also features Drew Gasparini as Mark, Katrina Dideriksen as Mimi, Chelsea Lovett as Maureen, Dean-Carlo Grant as Collins, Joshua Cruz as Angel, Jeremy Gaston as Benny and Carla Stewart as Joanne. Shayla Benoit, Jake Boyd, Angela Birchett, Tim Ehrlich, Samia Mounts, Deon Oliverio and Xavier Rice complete the cast.

The production has scenic design by Charlie Smith, costume design by Caitlin Reed, lighting design by Marcie Green and sound design by Nevin Steinberg. Kelly McGrath is production stage manager.

Winner of the 1996 Tony Award for Best Musical and the Pulitzer Prize "Set in NYC's East Village," Rent, according to press notes, is a "modern take on the classic Puccini opera, La Boheme. It tells the unforgettable story of a group of young artists learning to survive, falling in love, finding their voices and living for today."

Celebrating its 62nd season of Broadway by the Beach, Surflight Theatre, a Jersey Shore entertainment destination for over 60 years, is now under the leadership of producer and Surflight alum Roy Miller.
