Theodore Bikel -- who will return to the role he knows better than any other this fall when he again pulls Tevye's milk cart in a new tour of Fiddler on the Roof -- has his Golde. She is Susan Cella, soon to be at the Williamstown Theatre Festival in Christmas in Naples.

The 36-city tour will begin rehearsals in September and hit the road soon after, according to a casting notice in Back Stage, a trade publication. An exact schedule is yet to be revealed. Sammy Dallas Bayes is director and choreographer.

Cella's Broadway credits include Me & My Girl, Evita and On the Twentieth Century.

Bikel starred in the original production of The Sound of Music, earning a Tony Award nomination. Still, most people know him as Tevye, owing to the fact that he has played the role more than 1,600 times, on Broadway and elsewhere. Bikel's most recent New York stage appearance was in The Gathering at Off-Broadway's Playhouse 91.

Fiddler on the Roof is based on the stories of Sholom Aleichem and concerns the travails of Tevye the Dairyman, his wife and three unmarried daughters, all residents of the tumble-down Russian shtetl, Anatevka. The original Broadway production of the Jerry Bock-Sheldon Harnick tuner was directed by Jerome Robbins, produced by Harold Prince and starred Zero Mostel. Other famous Tevyes include Topol and Luther Adler. Fiddler will be produced by Robert L. Young, Gregory S. Young, Nick Scandalios and Al Lichtenstein.
