Susan Egan, who had been sidelined from performances of Cabaret because of a "personal injury," returned to the show earlier than expected when she resumed performances Aug. 12. Understudy Linda Romoff performed the role of Sally Bowles in her absence.

Egan took over as Sally June 17, replacing Mary McCormack and surprising the theatre community, since Egan's name had already been attached to the Broadway-bound revival of Putting It Together. Egan had appeared in the retooled Sondheim revue when it played an engagement at L.A.'s Mark Taper Forum. Egan is contracted to Cabaret through Nov. 2.

Egan came to the attention of theatregoers when she originated the role of "Belle" in Disney's Beauty and the Beast. Other stage credits include State Fair and Bye, Bye Birdie with Tommy Tune. Her film and television credits include the voice of "Meg" in Disney's "Hercules" and guest roles on "The Drew Carey Show," "Party of Five," "All My Children" and "Loving."

Past Sallys in the Roundabout revival include Natasha Richardson (who won the 1998 Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical), Jennifer Jason Leigh and McCormack.
