Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins will appear together in a staged reading of Anne Nelson's moving play about the events of Sept. 11, The Guys, at the Royal Lyceum Theatre on Aug. 14 and 15.
The play, which began at the little Flea Theatre in New York (near the Twin Towers) has also proved a hit in Los Angeles, where Robbins appeared with Helen Hunt.
The Guys is based on a true story — of how playwright Nelson helped a New York Fire Brigade captain compose eulogies for several of his men who perished when the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center collapsed after being struck by the hijacked aircraft.
In the play, Nick (Tim Robbins) turns up at Joan's (Susan Sarandon's) apartment, still traumatized and barely audible. His voice is so low he's barely audible. The play ends with him, in uniform, giving a eulogy.
