Director-choreographer Susan Stroman's next collaborator will be the neo-swing pop outfit the Squirrel Nut Zippers. Stroman told Playbill On-Line she will workshop a new musical penned by the SNZ at Lincoln Center this coming January. The name of the piece could not be learned.
The Zippers are part of a recent wave of new swing-rock combos, including the Cherry Poppin' Daddies and the Brian Setzer Orchestra. SNZ albums include "Perennial Favorites" and the new "Christmas Caravan."
Stroman burst onto the scene several years ago when she choreographed the Kander and Ebb revue And the World Goes Round . She went on to choreograph Crazy for You (Tony Award) and Show Boat. Stroman would both direct and choreograph the Zippers piece.
