SEATTLE -- Leslie Swackhamer, A Contemporary Theatre's associate artistic director, has announced her resignation from ACT effective May 1, 1998, to pursue free-lance directing work in Seattle and elsewhere. Swackhamer joined the ACT staff in 1995, and served as interim artistic director during the 1997 season. Her directing assignments at the theatre included Going To St. Ives, Later Life, Avenue X, Old Wicked Songs and three of the annual productions of A Christmas Carol. She was also in charge of new play development at ACT, and was the producer, director, dramaturg and coordinator of the FirstACT new play workshops. She is currently producing the upcoming Women's Playwright's Festival to be held at ACT in May.

ACT's managing director Susan Trapnell acknowledges that "We were so fortunate to have Leslie Swackhamer here, and I can't imagine anyone else who could have taken on what Leslie did in 1997. While we are sorry to see her go, we fully understand her desire to pursue more directing work and she will leave with our deep appreciation and best wishes."
