The world premiere of Rufus Wainwright’s opera Hadrian opened October 13 at the Canadian Opera Company. The production continues performances through October 27 at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts in Toronto.

Peter Hinton directs the opera about Roman emperor Hadrian, with music by Wainwright and a libretto by Daniel MacIvor. Thomas Hampson stars in the title role opposite Karita Mattila as Plotina, Isaiah Bell as Antinous, Ambur Braid as Sabina, Ben Heppner as Dinarchus, and David Leigh as Turbo. Johannes Debus conducts.
