Mark Rucker, a SCR associate artist, directs the work commissioned by the California company. Performances began April 1 for the run slated through May 8 at the Segerstrom Stage.

A Naked Girl on the Appian Way follows the chain reaction of revelations unearthed in a neighborhood when two siblings return to their American home following a year-long excursion in Europe. A successful author/cooking-show host and socially-inept eccentric genius of sorts are at the head of the family in the play.

The cast features John de Lancie (Art, Childe Byron - SCR), Dawn-Lyen Gardner ("Art School Confidential"), Linda Gehringer (The Retreat from Moscow - SCR), Ann Guilbert (Billy Barnes Revue), Mary Joy (The Maderati), Terrence Riordan (Take Me Out - Seattle Repertory and The Old Globe) and James Yaegashi (Take Me Out - original cast).

The work reunites Greenberg with his most willing purveyor, SCR, which has commissioned and/or premiered his plays including The Violet Hour, Everett Beekin, Three Days of Rain, Hurrah At Last and Night and Her Stars. Other works include The Dazzle, Eastern Standard, The American Plan, Life Under Water and The Author's Voice. He also adapted Strindberg's Dance of Death for the recent Broadway staging with Ian McKellen, Helen Mirren and David Straithairn.

Director Rucker staged the world premiere of Christopher Shinn's On the Mountain and Cyrano de Bergerac last season at SCR. His other credits include The Dazzle, Hold Please, House Arrest, Amy’s View, So Many Words by Roger Rueff, Much Ado about Nothing, On the Jump, and The Triumph of Love. His recent feature film debut was "Die, Mommie, Die" starring Charles Busch (Taboo). The design team includes Tony Fanning (sets), Joyce Kim Lee (costumes), Peter Maradudin (lights) and Steven Cahill (sound design/composition). Jerry Patch serves as dramaturg and Scott Harrison is stage manager.
