Talawa Theatre Company to Tour Arthur Miller's All My Sons in the U.K. | Playbill

News Talawa Theatre Company to Tour Arthur Miller's All My Sons in the U.K. Talawa Theatre Company, Britain's primary black-led theatre company, is to revive its 2013 production of Arthur Miller's All My Sons, which it co-produced with Manchester's Royal Exchange Theatre for a national tour, beginning performances at Ipswich's New Wolsey Theatre Feb. 12, 2015.

It will subsequently tour to Cambridge, Salisbury, Watford, Oxford, Birmingham, Richmond in South West London, Colchester and Malvern.

The production features Ray Shell and Doña Croll as Joe and Kate Keller, an all-American couple who are living with the ghosts of World War II. Joe is successful, a self-made businessman, loving family man and pillar of the community. He is a partner in a machine shop building fighterplane parts. Joe and Kate’s happiness is clouded by one thing – their son is missing in action, presumed dead by all but his mother.

Shell was last seen in the West End in The Bodyguard at the Adlephi Theatre and Driving Miss Daisy at Wyndham's. He was recently seen at the Tricycle Theatre in Perseverance Drive. He originated the role of Rusty in the original production of Starlight Express. He is also a published novelist, whose books include "Iced," "The Devil Has Quentin's Heart" and "Spike Lee: The Eternal Maverick"

Croll's stage credits include Twelfth Night at Sheffield's Crucible, The American Plan at Bath Theatre Royal and London's St. James Theatre, Heresy Of Love for the Royal Shakespeare Company and The Riots at the Tricycle. On screen, she is best known for her roles in "Gimme Gimme Gimme," "Doctors," "Family Affairs," "Casualty" and most recently the ITV series "The Ice Cream Girls."

The cast also includes Kemi Bo-Jacobs (Ann Deever), Andrea Davy (Sue Bayliss), Ashley Gerlach (George Deever), Bethan Mary James (Lydia Lubey), Leemore Marrett Jr. (Chris Keller) and Chinna Wodu (Frank Lubey). It is directed by Michael Buffong, artistic director of Talawa, with designs by Ellen Cairns, lighting by Johanna Town and sound by Emma Laxton.

In a press statement, Buffong commented, "I'm really pleased to be able to take Arthur Miller’s All My Sons on tour, after last year’s success. Reviving this classic play enables us to explore the themes and ideas, which have a relevance to all our lives: family, loyalty, guilt, and betrayal. – universal concepts which make us who we are."
