News Tams-Witmark Releases Condensed Wizard of Oz for Kid Performers; Bye Bye Birdie Is Next The theatrical licensing agency Tams-Witmark has announced the release of a new version of The Wizard of Oz, based on the iconic 1939 MGM film, for young performers.

Developed for Tams-Witmark by iTheatrics, the organization which also creates the popular Broadway Junior series for Music Theatre International, The Wizard of Oz, Young Performers' Edition, retains the beloved Harold Arlen and E.Y. Harburg score, but whittles Dorothy's adventure down to an hour running time for elementary and middle school-aged performers.

iTheatrics founder and CEO Timothy Allen McDonald collaborated with Deena R. Harburg on the adaptation. The new version includes a production guide for directors, a sing-along recording for rehearsal, a recording of the performance music and a choreography DVD.

"The Wizard of Oz is a beloved story that teaches a beautiful lesson: sometimes your heart's desire is in your own backyard. It seems only appropriate that this musical treasure should be the first Young Performers' Edition title in Tams-Witmark's new collection for children," Tams-Witmark president Sargent L. Aborn said in a statement. "We are looking forward to seeing the creative ways in which children and educators will tell this wonderful story from their own backyards."

Tams-Witmark is also partnering with iTheatrics on a Young Performers edition of Bye Bye Birdie.
