The winning entry in the international competition to redesign the 25 year-old TKTS ticket booth could be announced soon, Playbill On-Line has learned. As reported earlier, a jury comprising civic leaders, as well as theatre, architectural and design professionals has been working to review entries. Theatre Development Fund (TDF) said some 680 new designs were submitted to the design competition.
TDF has run the TKTS booth since its inception 25 years ago. Today, the landmark Times Square facility sells $1.7 million in discount tickets annually. As reported in another story, on Dec. 29, between 11 AM and Noon, TDF will be photographing the temporary media tower construction surrounding the booth to document the long ticket lines and extensive preparations under way for the Times Square New Years Gala.
