The line for tickets at the discount TKTS booth will temporarily be rerouted north Dec. 27-Jan. 2 to allow the media to construct special temporary platforms in connection with covering New Year's Eve festivities at Times Square. Instead of snaking south along Duffy Square, the line for discount tickets will run north on Broadway, between 47th Street and 48th Street. At press time, specifics about managing the line and the traffic issues involved with TKTS patrons crossing 47th Street to get to the booth were not known. Playbill On-Line will update this story when details are available.
Theatre Development Fund's (TDF) TKTS booth will continue to operate, but TDF said it is cooperating with the NYPD and the Times Square Business Improvement District (TS-BID) to accommodate the installation of the temporary media risers on Duffy Square.
The television audience for the New Year's Eve gala at Times Square is expected to be the single biggest ever.
TDF said TKTS will run on a normal schedule with the exception of New Year's Eve, Dec. 31, when the booth will be open Noon - 6 PM. Normally, TKTS runs Mon.- Sat., 3 - 8 PM, for evening performances; Wed. and Sat., 10 AM-2 PM, for matinees; and Sun., 11 AM-7 PM, for all performances.
TDF's satellite TKTS booth on the mezzanine level at 2 World Trade Center (WTC) continues to operate normally during the holidays. Though closed Sunday, the WTC TKTS booth is unique from the one uptown at Duffy Square because it offers matinees tickets the day before performances. The WTC TKTS booth schedule is Mon. - Fri., 11 AM-5:30 PM; and Sat., 11 AM-3:30 PM.
