Megan Lawrence, Urinetown's former Little Becky Two Shoes, is on her way up the company ladder. On Aug. 27 she replaces 2002 Tony Award nominee Spencer Kayden as Little Sally in the award-winning musical satire.
Lawrence's last starring role on Broadway was as Eponine in Les Misérables. Other musical credits include the world premieres of Over and Over and The Rhythm Club. She won Washington, DC's Helen Hayes Award for her portrayal of Little Red Riding Hood in Into the Woods.
Urinetown, which migrated from the New York Fringe Festival to Off-Broadway to Broadway's Henry Miller, concerns a futuristic, drought-stricken city where water usage and toilets are controlled by an evil corporation, led by dapper Caldwell B. Cladwell (played by 2002 Tony nominee John Cullum). The citizens rebel — and dance! — and comedy ensues.
The Broadway company also includes Hunter Foster as juvenile lead Bobby Strong, Jeff McCarthy as corrupt narrator Officer Lockstock, Nancy Opel as Penelope Pennywise and Jennifer Laura Thompson as Hope Cladwell.
Tickets are $35-$95. The Henry Miller Theatre is located at 124 West 43rd Street. For reservations, call (212) 239-6200. Urinetown is on the web at http://www.urinetown.com.
