Open Door TheatreWorks, a young new theatre company based in Los Angeles, opens its inaugural production with the world premiere of Teacup for A Shallow Apocalypse, by E. Duffy Adams, running at the Santa Monica Playhouse through August 4.
Teacup..., described by director Obi Ndefo as "an existentially nauseating fantastical fable of love," involves three characters from Shakespeare's The Tempest.
Open Door co-founders Ndefo and Daren Rice were members of the Santa Monica Playhouse professional training program. Ndefo is currently at the Yale School of Drama's MFA program, where playwright Duffy is also currently studying. Rice, a four-time veteran of the Santa Monica Playhouse stage, plays Caliban in Teacup...
Actresses Robin Jones (Ariel) and Rae Ruff (Miranda) are both somewhat new to Los Angeles and making their Santa Monica Playhouse debut.
