It's time to pack up your adjectives and take an interplanet ride (with Janet, of course) as Memphis' Playhouse on the Square presents Schoolhouse Rock Live!, running April 9 through May 9.

Schoolhouse Rock Live is a musical based on the Emmy Award- winning cartoon series "Schoolhouse Rock," which ran through the 70s and 80s. The series was created by George Newall and Tom Yohe to teach kids about math, history, grammar and science in a fun, entertaining way.

Newall has called "Schoolhouse" "learning with a beat." From 1973-1985 Newall and Yohe created 41 segments of "Schoolhouse Rock," each ranging for three to three and a half minutes (what Newall noted as a perfect length for a pop rock song).

In 1993 TheatreBam of Chicago decided to remind the now 30 year old math whizzes and history buffs where their knowledge came from. With the help of writers Scott Ferguson and George Keating, TheatreBam revitalized "Schoolhouse" for a whole new generation of children to enjoy.

Theatregoers once again rock to such favorites as "Conjunction Junction," "I'm Just a Bill" and "The Preamble." Sources from the Playhouse say its more then just a show for children, it's a trip down memory lane. The cast of Playhouse's Schoolhouse includes Leah Bray, Raine Hicks, Amy Lindeman, Mitch Maguire, John Maness and Derek Spreckelmeyer.

The Playhouse begins this nostalgic trip April 9 for a run through May 9. Tickets are on sale through the Circuit Playhouse box office at (901) 726 4656. Tickets are $14 for adults and $12 for children.
