In celebration of Paines Plough's upcoming 40th anniversary, the company will tour the Roundabout auditorium — a 111-seat venue that can be put together and dismantled in a matter of hours by just two people. It stands five meters high and 10 meters square.

The Roundabout auditorium, which aims to reinvigorate theatre in regions that have little access to the best new writing, was tested last year with a prototype that was built out of wood.

"It's a way of tipping our hat to the regional theatres and saying it's extremely important as a foundation to theatre in this country," said Madeleine Lloyd Webber, who is on the board of trustees of the foundation. Andrew Lloyd Webber is not on the board of trustees but is "thrilled by this project."

Madeleine Lloyd Webber added, "If we donate, hopefully it will encourage other foundations and individuals to do the same. We are trying to encourage theatrical millionaires to help out a bit."

Paines Plough is an award-winning touring theatre company that specializes exclusively in commissioning and producing new plays and helping playwrights develop their craft. The company was founded in 1974 over a pint of Paines bitter in the Plough pub. Since then it has produced more than 100 new productions by world renowned playwrights.
