The musical, based on the 1988 dark comedy about a recently deceased couple and the ghoulish bio-exorcist they hire to scare the new tenants out of their house, will feature a score by Australian musician and comedian Eddie Perfect and a book by Anthony King and Scott Brown. Perfect is also at work on the Broadway-bound King Kong musical.
A previous reading took place in May earlier this year. The upcoming lab presentation will take place September 5–29. No word yet on casting for the project.
Beetlejuice is in development through Warner Bros. Theatre Ventures, currently represented on Broadway with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The group’s additional upcoming titles include Night Shift and Dog Day Afternoon.
Summer attendance is holding firm at just below 90%, with a cumulative average ticket price of $129.
The week-long series at the Colorado venue begins September 10.
Apple TV+'s Schmigadoon! and stage performer Eden Espinosa also received nominations.
The father and son duo have previously starred together in productions of the play written by Emmy winner Joseph Dougherty.
Summoners Ensemble Theatre will celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the show at the New York City staple.
The new musical, based on the 1959 film and featuring a book by Matthew López and Amber Ruffin and a score by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, will make its Broadway premiere this season.
