The Book of Mormon was named Best New Musical and also took awards for Gavin Creel for Best Actor in a Musical, Stephen Ashfield for Best Performance in a Supporting Role in a Musical and for Casey Nicholaw for Best Theatre Choreography.

Once won the newly introduced award for Outstanding Achievement in Music, with Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová cited for their music and lyrics and Martin Lowe named for his composition and arrangements. In addition, Zrinka Cviteši was named Best Actress in a Musical from the show's original London company.

Lucy Kirkwood's Chimerica, which premiered at the Almeida before transferring to the Harold Pinter, was named Best New Play, and additionally took awards for Lyndsey Turner for Best Director and Es Devlin for Best Set Designer. It also shared awards for Carolyn Downing's sound design with Gareth Owen for Merrily We Roll Along, and also shared the award for Tim Lutkin and Finn Ross' lighting design with Paul Pyant and Jon Driscoll's work on Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Also originating at the Almeida before transferring to the West End's Trafalgar Studios, Ghosts won three awards, Best Revival, Best Actress Lesley Manville and Best Actor in a Supporting Role Jack Lowden, taking the Almeida's tally to eight awards -- the most of any individual theatre. The National won two acting awards -- for Rory Kinnear, named Best Actor for his performance as Iago in Othello, and Sharon D Clarke, for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her performance in The Amen Corner. The National's departing artistic director Nick Hytner and executive director Nick Starr were presented with a Special Award for Outstanding Achievement. The other Special Award was presented to veteran producer Michael White.

The BBC Radio 2 Audience Award, the only award voted for by the general public, was presented to Les Miserables, which next year celebrates its 30th anniversary in London. The full list of nominees and winners follows, with winners listed in bold.
