Faith Prince will join the cast of Broadway's James Joyce's The Dead on March 14. She replaces Blair Brown, as the wife of the character played by Christopher Walken.

Prince recently finished a run in the Drama Dept. Off-Broadway revival of George Kelly's The Torchbearers. She won the Tony Award for playing Miss Adelaide in the revival of Guys and Dolls.

Prince will play Gretta Conroy in Richard Nelson and Shaun Davey's musical adaptation of the short story by Joyce. In the musical, Gretta's past love of a boy (now dead) is aroused when she sees his likeness in the face of a fellow party guest at a Christmas gathering.

The tuner, embraced as an antidote to brassier pop fare on Broadway, is directed by Nelson and uses poetry fragments, music hall songs and original pieces for its score.

Brown, the original Gretta in the Broadway musical, began to walk among the living again when she left the production March 12. Brown went straight into full rehearsals of Michael Frayn's Copenhagen, which begins previews at the Royale Theatre March 23. If the Tony Award fates are kind to The Dead, Brown would be the eligible Best Actress in a Musical nominee for originating the role on Broadway.
