International News The Devil Wears Prada Musical to Open in the West End

Tony Award winner Jerry Mitchell will direct and choreograph the musical based on the 2006 film and original novel.

Prepare your very best theatregoing looks! The stage musical adaptation of The Devil Wears Prada will open in the West End in October 2024. The musical is set to play London's Dominion Theatre with a score by Elton John, lyrics by Shaina Taub (Suffs), a book by Kate Wetherhead, and direction and choreography by Tony Award winner Jerry Mitchell (Kinky BootsLegally BlondeHairspray).

Based on the novel by Lauren Weisberger and the 2006 film adaptation, The Devil Wears Prada follows aspiring fashion journalist Andy Sachs. When she is hired as assistant to Miranda Priestly, cutthroat editor-in-chief of the fictional Runway Magazine, she discovers that breaking into the industry requires more than she expected.

The Devil Wears Prada had its world premiere at Chicago's James M. Nederlander Theatre last year. The production was directed by Tony Award winner Anna D. Shapiro, and starred Beth Leavel and Taylor Iman Jones as Miranda Priestly and Andy Sachs, respectively. Casting for the West End production has not yet been announced.

Mitchell has assembled a totally new creative team for his staging, with the West End bow set to feature scenic design by Tim Hatley, costume design by Gregg Barnes, lighting design by Bruno Poet, and sound design by Gareth Owen. Casting is by Jill Green.

The new musical will have an exclusive preview engagement at Theatre Royal Plymouth in July 2024, prior to opening at the Dominion. Kevin McCollum and Rocket Entertainment's David Furnish are still attached as producers after working on the Chicago world premiere. Joining for the London bow are Alchemation and Jamie Wilson. They present by special arrangement with Buena Vista Theatrical.
