News The Drama League Theater Center Will Open in Late 2012 in Tribeca The Drama League announced July 23 that it will open The Drama League Theater Center in late 2012. The state-of-the-art facility will be located on the lobby level of the historic former AT&T Building at 32 Avenue of the Americas, in the heart of TriBeCa's arts district.

The new venue will offer artist residencies, play readings, open rehearsals, developmental workshops, lectures, classes, seminars, discussions, conferences, theatre-focused social gatherings and more.

The Center will also serve as the base of the Directors Project, an education program for young stage directors and their collaborators, and the principal home for the Audience Project, which provides services, discussions with master artists, show discounts, and other opportunities to theatre lovers.

The Drama League Theater Center, according to the press announcement, will include a "brand-new laboratory/development space for theater artists to create and hone work for future productions, an administrative suite including computer workstations and conference space for artist use, flexible multi-purpose space for educational programming and special events, a box office, design capability for sound/projection/video, and a variety of new programs and audience-focused series."

“After nearly a century supporting America’s artistic community, we are thrilled to give the world’s most promising talents a place to develop and create stunning new works, while expanding to offer theater lovers new opportunities to deepen and enhance their understanding of the theatre,” Drama League executive director Gabriel Shanks said in a statement.

FXFOWLE, the architects behind Lincoln Center’s new North Plaza and Alice Tully Hall, are the designers of The Drama League Theater Center. The construction of the project is being funded by contributions from private and public foundations, individual donors and Drama League members.
