Directed by Actors Touring Company artistic director Ramin Gray, The Events plays a limited engagement through March 22.

The Actors Touring Company production of The Events features Neve McIntosh ("Doctor Who") and Clifford Samuel (Troilus and Cressida), reprising their roles from the 2013 London and touring productions, respectively.

"Award-winning Scottish playwright David Greig’s The Events follows a community’s search for compassion, peace and understanding in the wake of unthinkable violence," press notes state. "Delving into faith, politics and reason, Ramin Gray’s internationally acclaimed and theatrically inventive production features a soaring soundscape and a different community choir at each performance, drawn from diverse communities throughout the tri-state area."

The Events premiered at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, where it received a Fringe First and the Carol Tambor Best of Edinburgh Award. It then played the International Festival of Arts & Ideas in New Haven, CT.

The play is fictional, but it was inspired by the real event of Anders Behring Breivik's killing of 77 people in Norway in July 2011. A bombing in downtown Oslo killed eight, and 69 more were killed in a shooting at a youth camp on the Norwegian island of Utoya. Greig met with director Gray at the Traverse Theater's bar in Edinburgh, and they discussed creating a play responding to the Norway tragedy. The two visited Norway, where they met people affected by the murders but struggled with how to present the story. The Events features music by John Browne, design by Chloe Lamford, lighting design by Charles Balfour, sound design by Alex Caplen, music direction by Magnus Gilljam and music supervision by David Dabbon.
