News The Foreigner, Starring John Scherer, Will Play St. Louis Rep; Casting Announced John Scherer will star as Charlie Baker in the Repertory Theatre of St. Louis production of Larry Shue's comedy The Foreigner, which will begin performances Nov. 28 on the Browning Mainstage.

The original stage production of The Foreigner premiered at the Milwaukee Repertory Theatre in 1983 prior to transferring to Off-Broadway's Astor Place Theatre where it ran for nearly two years.

Edward Stern will stage the production that is scheduled to run through Dec. 23. In addition to Scherer (Lovemusik, By Jeeves, Sunset Boulevard), the cast will include Matthew Carlson (Red) as Rev. David Marshall Lee, Winslow Corbett (Ah, Wilderness!) as Catherine Simms, Brent Langdon as "Froggy" LeSueur, Casey Predovic as Ellard Simms, Carol Schultz (You Can't Take It With You) as Betty Meeks and Jay Smith as Owen Musser.

Here's how the comedy is billed: "In this wild and wacky comedy, Charlie Baker needs to get away, and his friend Froggy knows just the place - his favorite little fishing lodge in rural Georgia. To get Charlie some much needed peace, Froggy convinces the locals that his friend doesn't understand English. But the plan backfires when all the lodge's inhabitants start revealing deep secrets and diabolical plans in front of their quiet foreign guest. Nonstop hilarity ensues and builds to an outrageously funny climax in which the 'foreigner' just might save the day."

The Foreigner will have set design by John Ezell, costume design by Dorothy Marshall Englis, lighting design by Peter E. Sargent and sound design by Rusty Wandall.
