Audible continues its support of emerging playwrights with its upcoming release of Madhuri Shekar’s new audio play Evil Eye, to be released May 2. Shekar is one of Audible’s commissioned playwrights, supported by their $5M Fund, specifically dedicated to supporting emerging writers.

The playwright structures her story as a series of phone calls between a mother, Usha, in India and her daughter, Pallavi, in Los Angeles. Usha is obsessed with getting Pallavi married off; but when Pallavi actually meets an Indian-American entrepreneur who appears to be the perfect match, Usha cannot control her suspicions.
The cast features Nick Choksi (The Great Comet), Rita Wolf (The American Pilot), Annapurna Sriram (The Spoils), Bernard White (TV’s The Blacklist), Harsh Nayyar (A Meeting by the River),Evil Eye is available for pre-order April 24. Listen to an exclusive excerpt from the play below:
