This year's festival highlights work developed from HHTF’s "Critical Breaks" Workshop series. The works will be seen at venues downtown including the New York Theater Workshop as well as uptown's The Apollo Theater. The HHTF has produced such works in previous years as Sarah Jones' Surface Transit, Will Power's Flow and more. The mission is to unite "the best of both emerging and established hip-hop artists from around the country in an arena that stretches the limits of theater, dance, spoken word and live music."

Among the many presentations this year include Playback NYC's What You Say White Boy?, Javon Johnson's Breathe, Kristoffer Diaz's Welcome to Arroyo's, Chadwick Boseman's Deep Azure and excerpts from solo works by Jerry Quickley, Yuri Lane, Angela Kariotis and Teo Castellanos.
