The Off-Broadway premiere of Ngozi Anyanwu’s play The Homecoming Queen has been extended an additional week and will now play through February 18 at Atlantic Theater Company’s Stage 2. The production opened to positive reviews on January 22, with the extension announcement coming just two days later.

In the new drama, Mfoniso Udofia (Sojourners and Her Portmanteau) plays a novelist who has returned to Nigeria after living in America for more than a decade. Having been absent for so long, the trip forces her to confront a painful past, her culture, and a deep, unexpected love.

The Homecoming Queen is directed by Awoye Timpo, associate director of Broadway’s Tony Award-winning revival of Jitney. The limited engagement began January 10 and was originally scheduled through February 11.

Completing the cast are Mirirai Sithole, Oberon K.A. Adjepong, Segun Akande, Ebbe Bassey, Vinie Burrows, Patrice Johnson, and Zenzi Williams.

The production features scenic design by Yu-Hsuan Chen, costume design by Ntokozo Fuzunina Kunene, lighting design by Oona Curley, sound design by Amatus Karim-Ali, movement direction by Hope Boykin, music direction by Nolufefe Mtshabe, and dialect coaching by Ebbe Bassey. Casting is by Caparelliotis Casting.
