The Walnut Street Theatre's Independence Studio on 3, providing a showcase for "intimate stories in an intimate space," opens its 2004 season with Unsinkable Women: Stories and Songs from The Titanic, Jan. 6-25.

Written and performed by Deborah Jean Templin, "this emotional tour de force focuses on the personal journeys of various women who were aboard The Titanic," according to the announcement.

Official opening for "this powerful study of courage and character" is Jan. 8 at the Off-Broadway-style space attached to the historic Walnut Street.

According to production notes, "On April 15, 1912, the sinking of the Titanic became an international news story – and a grand symbol of survival. Unsinkable Women is based on actual diaries, letters, period songs and interviews. Take a remarkable journey with nine women whose lives were forever altered by their experience including: Madeline Astor, Violet Jessup, Molly Brown and the illustrious Philadelphian, Eleanor Widener."
