Since 2002 more than 15 million theatregoers in over 70 cities across North America have seen the record-breaking musical.
The Lion King, which is currently the longest-running production on the road, opens July 11 at The State Theatre in Cleveland, OH, and plays for four weeks through Aug. 4, 2013.
“After 11 years of touring this theatrical phenomenon, we are tremendously proud to celebrate these milestones with our partners throughout North America who have presented The Lion King with consummate care and a tireless commitment to protecting the vision of the show’s creators,” said David Schrader, executive vice president and managing director, Disney Theatrical Productions, in a statement. “We look forward to many more years of sharing Julie Taymor’s extraordinary artistry with audiences across North America.”
“As we begin our 100th engagement, it is profoundly gratifying to reflect that the domestic touring productions of The Lion King have reached and inspired diverse audiences in so many communities across North America for more than 11 years,” added Jack Eldon, vice president, domestic, Disney Theatrical Productions. “We remain overwhelmed by the enduring response to the show and are enormously thankful to our patrons – new and returning - for their continued enthusiasm and support.”
