News The Mad Ones' Samuel & Alasdair: A Personal History of the Robot War Will Play the New Ohio Theatre The New Ohio Theatre will present the Manhattan premiere of the New York Innovative Theatre Award-winning play Samuel & Alasdair: A Personal History of the Robot War, beginning Jan. 5, 2012.

Samuel & Alasdair, written by Marc Bovino and Joe Curnutte, is co-conceived and directed by Lila Neugebauer. The limited engagement will continue through Jan. 21. A vintage dance party will follow the Jan. 14 and Jan. 21 performances.

The cast includes Curnutte as The Host (Unnatural Acts at Classic Stage), Bovino as Dr. Mischa Romanov, Stephanie Wright Thompson as Anastasia Volinski and Michael Dalto as Alexei "Tumbleweed" Petrovya.

Here’s how the production is billed: "In an alternate global history, the cold war was decided not by détente, not by nuclear holocaust, but by massive robot invasion. Among the survivors, a team of Russian radio hosts, warmed to a lost culture of 1950s Americana, broadcast a story of brothers’ love drawn straight from the American heartland. Samuel & Alasdair: A Personal History of the Robot War combines 1950s radio drama, vintage country music, and Soviet science in a sci-fi surrealist 'War of the Worlds' meets 'A Prairie Home Companion' examination of American nostalgia."

Samuel & Alasdair, which was given its premiere at Brooklyn's Brick Theatre in 2010, won three 2010 New York Innovative Theatre Awards, including Outstanding Production of a Play, Outstanding Ensemble and Outstanding Sound Design (Stowe Nelson). The show also received four additional NYIT Award nominations, including Neugebauer for Outstanding Director, Bovino for Outstanding Lead Actor, Curnutte for Outstanding Lead Actor and Thompson for Outstanding Lead Actress.

Other members of the creative team include sound designer Nelson, lighting designer Mike Inwood, costume designer Jessica Pabst, set designer Laura Jellinek and musical director Dalto. Samuel & Alasdair is produced by The Mad Ones and co-created by the Ensemble. The Mad Ones co-artistic directors are Bovino, Curnutte, Neugebauer and Thompson.

The New Ohio Theatre is located at 154 Christopher Street. For more information and tickets, call (212) 868-4444 or visit www.SmartTix.com or www.MadOne.wordpress.com.
