St. Louis' Muny has announced the stars of its regional premiere of Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, featuring a number of familiar faces. Running June 12 through 18, the production will kick off the regional theatre stalwart's 2023 summer season.

Featuring direction by Marcia Milgrom Dodge, choreography by Patricia Wilcox, and music direction by Charlie Alterman, the production is sponsored by Emerson.

Beautiful will star Sara Sheperd as Carole King, a role she originally understudied on Broadway as well as toured throughout North America. She will be joined by fellow Broadway cast member, Jarrod Spector, who will be reprising his Tony nominated role as Barry Mann. Additionally, Broadway standouts Jackie Burns and Steven Good will play Cynthia Weil and Gerry Goffin respectively, Muny favorite Noah Weisberg will play Don Kirshner, and Sharon Hunter will play Genie Klein.

Additional casting and creative team members will be announced at a later date.

With a book by late Tony and Oscar nominee Douglas McGrath, direction by Marc Bruni, and choreography by Josh Prince, Beautiful features an array of songs written by the songwriting teams of Gerry Goffin/Carole King and Barry Mann/Cynthia Weil. Numbers include “So Far Away,” “Will You Love Me Tomorrow,” “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling,” “You’ve Got a Friend,” “I Feel the Earth Move,” and “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman.”

Beautiful received its world premiere at the Curran Theatre in San Francisco in October 2013, and made its Broadway debut at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre in January 2014, where it ran until October 2019. A West End production ran from 2015 to 2017, and various U.S. tours continued through 2020.
