News The Nutcracker TV Movie Will Move the Action to New York City The Nutcracker, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's classic ballet, will be reimagined as a modernized two-hour television movie for NBC.

Deadline reports that director-producer Adam Shankman will take on the new project written by Todd Graff ("Camp"). Travis Wall will choreograph.

This "Nutcracker" is described as "a contemporary reimagining of the holiday ballet staple set in a magical New York City, with high school outcast Clara and Nutcracker-turned-Prince battling assassins across the Big Apple."

No premiere date was announced.

Shankman and his sister Jennifer Gibgot will serve as producers. Wall, Graff and UCLA gymnastics head coach Valorie Kondos Field will co-executive produce.
