The Public Theater has announced the cast for its upcoming production of Oedipus El Rey by Luis Alfaro. With direction by Chay Yew, the play, in which the tragic hero is re-imagined as a troubled Latino, is the latest co-production from The Sol Project.
In the title role will be Juan Castano, who currently stars in A Parallellogram; he will be joined by Sandra Delgado as Jocasta; Julio Monge as Tiresias, Coro; Joel Perez as Creon, Coro; Brian Quijada as Coro; Reza Salazar as Coro; and Juan Francisco Villa as Laius, Coro.
Performances of Oedipus El Rey will begin October 3 and run through November 19, with an official press opening on October 24.
As previously announced, The Public’s 2017–18 season will kick off this fall with the world premiere of Elevator Repair Service’s Measure for Measure, a unique take on Shakespeare’s comedy from the dynamic Off-Broadway company.
The cast will be made up of Rinne Groff as Isabella; Lindsay Hockaday as Pompey and Juliet; Maggie Hoffman as Provost: Mike Iveson as Lucio; Vin Knight as Escalus; April Matthis as Francisca, Mariana; Gavin Price as Froth, Friar, Boy, Barnardine,and Messenger; Greig Sargeant as Claudio; Scott Shepherd as the Duke; Pete Simpson as Angelo, and Susie Sokol as Mistress Overdone, Elbow, Varrius, and Abhorson.
