News The School For Scandal Opens Off-Broadway Richard Brinsley Sheridan’s classic comedy is revived Off-Broadway by Red Bull Theater starring Tony nominee Dana Ivey.

Red Bull Theater's production of The School For Scandal officially opens April 24 following previews that began April 8 at the Lortel Theater. Richard Brinsley Sheridan’s classic comedy is revived Off-Broadway with direction by Marc Vietor, starring Tony nominee Dana Ivey (Butley), Mark Linn-Baker (My Favorite Year), Frances Barber (The Seagull at BAM) and Henry Stram (Titanic.)

The complete cast features Helen Cespedes, Christian Conn, Christian DeMarais, Jacob Dresch, Ramsey Faragallah, Ryan Garbayo, Bradley Gibson, Nadine Malouf, Ben Mehl and Derek Smith.

The play is billed as a portrait of a “ a social network of grotesques, gossips, lustful hypocrites and anonymous assassins of reputation.“ “After sixteen years abroad Oliver Surface returns home incognito to test the true characters of his nephews, Charles (a prodigal, apparently), and Joseph (a paragon, supposedly),“ state production notes. “Meanwhile he discovers his old friend Peter Teazle has wed a young country wife and is in marital purgatory, being victimized in print and society by a spiteful team of imbeciles and rumor-mongers — Fun for the whole family.“

The production features scenic design by Anna Louizos, costume design by Andrea Lauer, lighting design by Russell H. Champa, sound and music by Greg Pliska, original song by Gideon & Hubcap, hair and wig design by Charles G. LaPointe; as well as choreography by Paul McGill. Stuart Howard served as casting director.
