News THE SCREENING ROOM: Douglas Carter Beane Gives Playbill.com a Shout-Out During Commencent Speech Tony Award-nominated Cinderella and The Nance author Douglas Carter Beane was in Philadelphia, PA, May 16 to give the 2013 commencement address at the University of the Arts.

Beane, a Pennsylvania native, spoke to graduating arts students at the 135th commencement ceremony at the Philadelphia's Academy of Music. The writer also received an Honorary Doctor of Fine Arts degree from the University.

In addition to his words of advice and inspiration for the 2013 graduates, Beane also gave a shout-out to Playbill.com.

Speaking about following one's own career and path, Beane mused, "There's a website called Playbill.com and it lists everything that everyone is doing in theatre around the world everywhere... I've taken to calling my morning visits there, 'Why didn't I get that?!'"
