News THE SCREENING ROOM: Happy Birthday, Stephen Sondheim and Andrew Lloyd Webber! (Video) Tony Award-winning composers and musical theatre legends Stephen Sondheim and Andrew Lloyd Webber share a wealth of common ground: Both have written long-running Broadway sensations, taken home multiple Tony Awards and even share the same birthday.

In celebration of their March 22 shared birthday, we honor Sondheim, who turns 82, and Lloyd Webber, who turns 64, with a look back at their careers in music and theatre. Sondheim, who won Original Score Tony Awards for his work on Company, Follies, A Little Night Music, Sweeney Todd, Into the Woods and Passion—not to mention the Tony for Lifetime Acheivement in 2008—was represented this season with the critically acclaimed Broadway revival of Follies. His Tony-winning Into the Woods will also be seen in an upcoming Shakespeare in the Park production at the Delacorte Theatre this summer.

Lloyd Webber, who won Original Score Tony Awards for his work on Evita, Cats and Sunset Boulevard, is represented this Broadway season with revivals of Jesus Christ Superstar, which officially opens on his birthday, and Evita, which began previews at the Marquis Theatre March 12 and will officially open April 5 as well as the long-running The Phantom of the Opera.

Sondheim receives his first Tony Award in 1971 for Company.

The Tony Awards performances from Lloyd Webber's Tony-winning musicals: Sunset Boulevard, Phantom of the Opera, Evita and Cats.

Sondheim gives a master class, teaching "My Friends" from Sweeney Todd.

In an early interview with Lloyd Webber, the composer talks about his personal attachment to the Phantom tunes, which were written for his second wife Sarah Brightman, who originated the role of Christine.

In a half-hour interview with composing legend Sondheim, he talks about his start in music and his multiple award-winning musicals.

Lloyd Webber accompanied Love Never Dies leading lady Sierra Boggess for the title song of his Phantom of the Opera sequel.

The Stephen Sondheim Theatre, current home of Anything Goes, was unveiled in September 2010. Nathan Lane, Roundabout creatives, Patti LuPone and Sondheim himself spoke at the renaming ceremony.

Lloyd Webber sat down with Piers Morgan on CNN this summer and talked about Jesus Christ Superstar. He discussed the musical’s origins as well as the Stratford Shakespeare Festival production, which transferred to La Jolla and now plays on Broadway.
