THE SCREENING ROOM: Remembering Judy Garland

News   THE SCREENING ROOM: Remembering Judy Garland
End of the Rainbow, starring Oliver Award winner and Tony Award nominee Tracie Bennett as late entertainer Judy Garland, opened on Broadway April 2, 2012, at the Belasco Theatre. In celebration of the production, remembers the late Garland with performances and more.

The following videos celebrate Garland later in her career; many, if not all of them, culled from her series "The Judy Garland Show," which put the icon in living rooms across America every Sunday night during the early 1960's.

Garland earned an Academy Award nomination for playing Esther Blodgett in "A Star Is Born," which introduced the song "The Man That Got Away."

It's all about that final note (and everything that leads up to it). Even Judy surprises herself with the power of her own voice, saying, "Oh, my goodness," as she ends her final note in this clip from "The Judy Garland Show."

Judy proves her way around a lyric in this simple, quiet gem of a song, "A Cottage for Sale." This is a master class in performance.

Audio of Kurt Weill's "It Never Was You" from her 1963 film "I Could Go On Singing."

The classic Judy Garland-Barbra Streisand duet, "Get Happy/Happy Days Are Here Again":

Garland sings a Cole Porter medley, introduced by Gene Kelly, at the Academy Awards:

"As Long as He Needs Me":

"Ol' Man River":

"When You're Smiling":

"Together (Wherever We Go)" with daughter Liza Minnelli:

Liza and Judy at the London Palladium:

Harold Arlen's perfect song, "Happiness Is Just a Thing Called Joe," which Garland dedicated to her young son, Joey Luft.

Johnny Mercer penned the lyric for this song, written especially for Judy and her daughter Lorna Luft.

Performing the Gershwins' "Liza (All the Clouds'll Roll Away)" for her daughter, Liza Minnelli.

 "Do It Again."

A hit from the Great American Songbook, Alan Brandt and Bob Haymes' "That's All."

And, finally, a rare look at Judy in her "tramp" costume performing "Over the Rainbow." The clip is introduced by Lorna Luft.
