Theatre for One has installed its small, self-contained theatre—complete with lighting, sound, and design—in the lobby of the Pershing Square Signature Center for the month of November. In the temporary space, the company is staging nine original short plays by Signature Theatre resident playwrights Lee Blessing, Charles Fuller, John Guare, David Henry Hwang, Bill Irwin, Charles Mee, Suzan-Lori Parks, Regina Taylor, and Naomi Wallace.
The small theatre has just enough room for one performer and one audience member. The series, titled In This Moment, will offer three plays per week. Performances are running November 2-21.
“It is a privilege for Theatre for One to give these brilliant writers an intimate room within their Signature home to share what is on their minds and in their hearts In This Moment,” commented Theatre for One artistic director Christine Jones in a press statement. “We are grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with these singular American voices at a time when Americans are longing to be heard.”
Theatre for One is a New York-based company that is focused on presenting one-on-one theatrical experiences. The Signature space is conceived by Jones and directed by architecture firm LO-TEK; each short play was specially commissioned for In This Moment.
