News The Sonnet Man to Fuse Shakespeare and Hip-Hop in Jackson Heights Shakespeare and hip-hop will be brought together by the music group The Sonnet Man in a special concert, also titled The Sonnet Man, in Jackson Heights, Queens, Feb. 12.

The 8 PM event will take place at P.S. 69 and will be produced by Jackson Repertory Theatre.

The group The Sonnet Man features Devon Glover and also includes Allan Mednard on drums, Alex Violette on bass, Jeremy Sherron on keyboard, Robin Hood on guitar, and Melissa Guttman and Meghan Early on vocals.

The evening was conceived by playwright Arje Shaw (The Gathering) and will feature music by Daniel Lynas.

According to press notes, "The Sonnet Man sets Shakespeare’s soulful sonnets to song with a contemporary hip hop twist, blending classical literature with an urban beat and introducing a whole new generation to The Bard and his most beloved poetry."
