Providence, Rhode Island’s Trinity Repertory Company will begin its 1998 99 season with Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill’s classic musical The Threepenny Opera. Alan MacVey will direct the dark tale of amoral cutthroat Mack the Knife. Also on Trinity’s agenda are Can’t Pay? Won’t Pay!, one of the better known works of 1997 Pulitzer Prize-winning Italian dramatist Dario Fo; Shakespeare’s comedy As You Like It; G.B. Shaw’s take on the Joan of Arc legend, St. Joan; and David Mamet’s aptly titled family drama, The Cryptogram. This last will be directed by Trinity Artistic Director Oskar Eustis. No other directors or cast members have been named.

Two additional plays to be announced will fill out the menu, including one world premiere. The order of the productions may change; for now, it is only known that The Threepenny Opera will inaugurate the season. For information, call (401) 351-4242.
