News The Trial of Oscar Wilde Will Play Symphony Space; Casting Announced The Ensemble for the Romantic Century (ERC) will present The Trial of Oscar Wilde June 19-21 at Leonard Nimoy Thalia at Symphony Space.

This fully staged theatrical concert, which interweaves drama and music about one of the most famous trials of the 19th century, features a script based on Wilde’s correspondence, plays and short stories.

The cast will feature Michael Halling as Oscar Wilde and Robert Ian Mackenzie as Lord Queensbury.

The trial, according to press notes, provides a "dramatic backdrop for chamber music by French and English composers from the late 19th and early 20th centuries including Chausson's masterful Concerto for violin, piano and string quartet, and works by Satie, Elgar, Fauré and Franck in performances by the dynamic Amphion String Quartet, violinist Susie Park, pianist Max Barros and a romping barbershop quartet."

“It’s no surprise that the trials of Oscar Wilde continue to fascinate 100 years after his death,” said James Melo, ERC’s musicologist and writer of The Trial of Oscar Wilde, in a statement. “Audiences will be enchanted! We’re thrilled to be sharing Wilde’s brilliant wit, biting humor and harrowing story.”

Show times are June 19-21 at 8 PM with an additional performance June 21 at 2 PM. Leonard Nimoy Thalia at Symphony Space is located at 2537 Broadway at 95th Street. For tickets call (212) 864-5400 or visit symphonyspace.org.
