The Vineyard Moves Gigantic Musical Comedy to New Location | Playbill

News The Vineyard Moves Gigantic Musical Comedy to New Location The Vineyard has announced that the first show of its season, the new musical comedy Gigantic, will now be staged at The Acorn Theatre at Theatre Row in Mahattan's theatre district due to facility upgrades at its permanent Union Square home.

Set at one of the top weight-loss camps for teens in the U.S. The musical features a book by Randy Blair and Tim Drucker, lyrics by Blair and music by Matt roi Berger.

The Off-Broadway engagement will run Nov. 11-Dec. 20, with an official opening night set for Dec. 3. Scott Schwartz will direct and Chase Brock will choreograph, with casting to be announced at a later date.

Previously titled Fat Camp, the musical debuted in 2009 as part of the New York Musical Theatre Festival and played a brief Off-Broadway run in 2012.

The story follows Robert's resistant journey to weight-loss camp, told with "biting humor and irreverence." According to the Vineyard's release, Gigantic "tackles the growing pains of adolescence through the experiences of a bunch of misfit teens forced to find solace in one another as they look — inside and out — for acceptance, a hot make-out session, and the last contraband Butterfinger."

The Vineyard's 2015-16 season will also feature new works by Pulitzer winner Paula Vogel and Tony nominee Colman Domingo, whose play Dot will be directed by multiple Tony winner Susan Stroman. The company will also stage the New York premiere of John Kander's new musical Kid Victory in the fall of 2016.
