GO (Washington, DC)→ Singer Michelle Williams, of Destiny Child's fame, joins the national tour of Fela! for the show's Washington, DC run. The Tony-nominated musical, directed by Bill T. Jones, tells the story of Nigerian activist and Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti. Williams plays Sandra Isadore, a Black Panther activist who falls for Fela. Williams will take a brief hiatus (Feb. 1-3) to join fellow Destiny Child's members Beyonce and Kelly Rowland to perform at the Super Bowl halftime show. GO→ The New-York Historical Society presents a special screening of Steven Spielberg's "Lincoln," featuring a talk-back with the film's screenwriter Tony Kushner. During Daniel Day Lewis' recent Golden Globe acceptance speech, he extolled the qualities of the Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright saying, "Tony Kushner. OPENING→ The 20th anniversary season of Encores! kicks off with the Jerry Bock-Sheldon Harnick musical that started it all, Fiorello! The Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning 1959 show tells the story of Fiorello H. LaGuardia through his years taking on the crooked Tammany Hall organization and his election as mayor of New York City. Danny Rutigliano, in the title role, leads the cast featuring Kate Baldwin, Erin Dilly, Emily Skinner, Shuler Hensley, Jeremy Bobb and more.
