GO (Washington, DC)→ Singer Michelle Williams, of Destiny Child's fame, joins the national tour of Fela! for the show's Washington, DC run. The Tony-nominated musical, directed by Bill T. Jones, tells the story of Nigerian activist and Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti. Williams plays Sandra Isadore, a Black Panther activist who falls for Fela. Williams will take a brief hiatus (Feb. 1-3) to join fellow Destiny Child's members Beyonce and Kelly Rowland to perform at the Super Bowl halftime show. GO→ The New-York Historical Society presents a special screening of Steven Spielberg's "Lincoln," featuring a talk-back with the film's screenwriter Tony Kushner. Praise and award nominations have been heaped on Kushner as of late. During Daniel Day Lewis' recent Golden Globe acceptance speech, he extolled the qualities of the Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright saying, "Tony Kushner. Everyday I have to live without the immeasurable wealth of your language, which reminds me every day of the impoverishment of my own." OPENING→ The 20th anniversary season of Encores! kicks off with the Jerry Bock-Sheldon Harnick musical that started it all, Fiorello! The Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning 1959 show tells the story of Fiorello H. LaGuardia through his years taking on the crooked Tammany Hall organization and his election as mayor of New York City. Danny Rutigliano, in the title role, leads the cast featuring Kate Baldwin, Erin Dilly, Emily Skinner, Shuler Hensley, Jeremy Bobb and more. GO→ Tony winner Lea Salonga kicks off Lincoln Center's American Songbook series with an intimate show set in Lincoln Center's luminous Allen Room. Other highlights of the celebrated Songbook series include appearances by Kristin Chenoweth; Alice Ripley, Brian d'Arcy James and Idina Menzel singing the songs of Next to Normal's Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey; gospel singer Mavis Staples; and indie singer Ingrid Michaelson. GO (FREE)→ Turner Classic Movies (TCM) hosts a free screening of the Oscar-winning film "Cabaret" at the famed Ziegfeld Theatre (the very same theatre where it premiered 40 years ago). The film's stars, Liza Minnelli, Joel Grey, Michael York and Marisa Berenson, will be on hand to chat with TCM host Robert Osborn and introduce the film's anniversary restoration. WATCH→ Former Rock of Ages stars Wesley Taylor (currently of "Smash") and Mitchell Jarvis debut their new web series, the comedy "It Could Be Worse."
