News The Woodsman Returns Off-Broadway Tonight The Woodsman, the untold story of Oz's Tinman and the woman he loved, kicks off a return Off-Broadway engagement Jan. 27 at New World Stages. The show has had two previously acclaimed and sold-out engagements at 59E59 Theaters.

Directed by James Ortiz and Claire Karpen, the musical features music by Edward W. Hardy and lyrics by Jen Loring.

Reprising their roles are Benjamin Bass, Will Gallacher, Alex J. Gould, Amanda A. Lederer, Aaron McDaniel, Lauren Nordvig, Eliza Simpson, Meghan St. Thomas, Sophia Zukoski, Oritz and Devin Dunne Cannon, who is also associate director. The Woodsman is set to officially open Feb. 8.

"Based on the beloved writings of L. Frank Baum, The Woodsman tells the origin story of the Tin Woodsman, the woman he loved, and the witch that would stop at nothing to keep them apart," state new press notes. "Back by popular demand, Strangemen & Co. brings this hauntingly beautiful Land of Oz to life through spectacular puppetry and original music."

The production features set and puppet design by Ortiz, costume design by Carol Uraneck, lighting design by Catherine Clark and Jamie Roderick and costume coordination by Molly Seidel.

Robb Nanus, Rachel Sussman, Ryan Bogner and Adam Silberman are the producers. The Woodsman was originally produced and developed by Strangemen & Co. and premiered at Brooklyn’s Standard ToyKraft in 2012. Following a staging at the Ars Nova ANT Fest in 2013, it went on to transfer to 59E59 Theaters in 2014 and played a return, sold-out engagement there in 2015.
