NY Musical Theatre Fest Theater for the New City and NYMF Go Soul Searching in New Rock Musical Soul Searching, a new rock musical that has previously received Off-Off-Broadway runs at The 45th Street Theater and the Times Square Arts Center, will presented again by Theater for the New City, in association with the 2006 New York Musical Theatre Festival.

This run is focused on the continued development of Soul Searching for an Off-Broadway run projected for mid-winter 2007. Performances run through Sept. 17 at Theater for the New City. Tickets are only $15, whereas most NYMF shows are $20.

In Soul Searching, Brenda is a SJF (Single Jewish Female) on a wild and comedic search for her soul-mate with the help of her three best married friends, all engulfed in relationship troubles of their own. Along the way, as she finds herself involved two very different relationships with two very different single men, Brenda discovers that "it's not the destination, but the journey" that matters most.

The cast includes Melissa Schoenberg, Matt Posner, Andrew Hubbard, Elana Safar, as well as long-time Okin/Kunstler performers Kathryn Comperatore and Ellie Dvorkin. The muscial also includes a live band led by bassist/guitarist Jon Taub, drummer Jason Horowitz, and electric guitarist Vitaa.

Book, additional music and lyrics, and direction are by Matt Okin, with music and lyrics by Avi Kunstler – who together have written A Match Made in Manhattan, One Innocent Woman, Cherry Hill Destinations, Second Chances, Twist of Faith. The Executive Producer is Norman Gurman, the production stage manager is Mandy Blevins, the technical director is Sam Gordon, and lighting design is by Russel Drapkin.

Performances of Soul Searching, August 30 - September 17, are Wednesdays at 8:30, Thursdays at 8:30, Saturdays at 9:30, and Sundays at 3 and 7:30. There are no Friday performances (and no performances on Saturday, September 2 and Sunday, September 3). All seats are $15, and can be reserved by calling the Theater for the New City box office at (212) 254-1109 or by visiting www.theaterforthenewcity.net. Theater for the New City is located at 155 First Avenue, between 9th and 10th Streets in NYC, and is handicapped accessible.
