Mark Ravenhill's Shopping and Fucking, a British hit then imported to Off-Broadway's New York Theatre Workshop, will make its Houston debut at the Theater LaB [sic], Jan. 6-Feb. 14, 1999.
The risque-titled play depicts misguided youth of the 90's in a stark environment where relationships, trust and sex are traded as commodities -- a young generation trained to believe that money is a god and consumerism a form of religious faith.
Author Ravenhill, literary director of the Paines Plough theatre company, recently saw his second play, Faust (Faust Is Dead), staged by the Actors Touring Company, and his latest play Handbag, is currently playing at London's Lyric Studio in Hammersmith.
Theater LaB Houston's production of Shopping and Fucking, plays Jan. 6 - Feb. 14, 1999. For tickets ($20-$22) or more information, call (713) 868-7516.
