After hit runs at the Edinburgh Festival and at London's Barbican, 3 Dark Tales, an evening of dark physical comedy from Theatre O, opens Off-Broadway at 45 Bleecker April 9. Writer-performer John Alford directs the production, playing through June 9.
Claiming a Buster Keaton-Marx Brothers-esque mentality, 3 Dark Tales mocks the humdrum and depressing every day lives of three office co-workers, who find their existances are rapidly disintegrating. When 3 Dark Tales premiered at the Edinburgh Festival, it garnered the Total Theatre Award.
Theatre O is Alford, Carolina Valdes, Sarah Coxon and Lucien MacDougall. The quartet trained at the famed Ecole Jacques Lecoq, where they studied mime and movement for the theatre. Theatre O formed in 1997 under artistic director Alford.
Designing 3 Dark Tales are Isla Shaw (sets and costumes) and Sarah Coxon (lighting). Eva Vilamitjana is the choreographer.
Tickets are $45 with $20 rush tickets available. 45 Bleecker is located at 45 Bleecker Street at Lafayette. For reservations, call (212) 307-4100. 3 Dark Tales is on the web at http://www.3darktalesnyc.com. — By Christine Ehren
